Low speed fuel mixture knob

Is anyone familiar with the fuel mixture control knob on a 6802 fisherman 6? I got the motor running after about 20 yrs sitting in a basement. I remember my grandfather messing with it when we used to troll fish. I am in a similar situation now where I have to navigate slowly through a cypress lake and was wondering if adjustment is necessary. Thanks!
 
The knob was put where it is so that adjustments could be made by the operator.------Adjustments on that motor are made regularly to compensate for fuel condition , local atmospheric conditions.
