overheating

Have a 1989 four winns 5.7 omc out drive.can not run engine on muffs wants to overheat also running about 180 in lake.new stat and water pump. Pulled water pump cover off with muffs on.No water from housing running out.HELP
 
This happened to me too. I had some debris clogging my line at the oil cooler. Disconnect your water lines at the cooler and the tstat and flush water through in reverse direction. If you don't have a clog there it may be somewhere else.
 
If the manifolds are OEM, then the risers/manifolds are probably clogged?Pull the whole manifold and check the end of the risers for corrosion/cloggs.
 
Hi everyone just an update on overheating issue. Pulled out drive and lower unit and installed a new water tube and seals.Ran engine on muffs pumping water like crazy.Thanks for everyone's input. Tweaker.
