Long shaft to short shaft?

Hi,

Being my first post on this forum I'd like to say hello to everyone.

My question is,

Can a long shaft lower unit be converted to a short shaft? (I'm not talking about the outboard, just the lower unit)
Is it just a matter of changing the shafts or is it more involved? I'm hoping to get an answer before i start sinking money in parts I don't need or won't use.

So I'm calling out all the pro's out there, is it feasible?

Thanks for your time :)

Don

contact bay manufacturing at 419-499-4602. I am in the process of doing just the opposite. they make a complete bolt in kit. they are located in ohio.

Hi Jeff,

The lower powerhead already is a short shaft.

I have a foot that is long shaft. I want to know if changing the shafts from long to short is a straight exchange?

thanks for the help,

Don

thats why i suggested you talk to the folks at bay manufacturing. you just don't put a shorter shaft in and go. ther is a kit. you also have to deal with the routing of the exhaust. just call....it will save you a bunch of headaches.

If the gearhousing castings are the same all you need to do is swap driveshafts. If notyou have to be careful as they use several type of driveshaft upper bearings(ball roller, preloaded cone, upside down cone)
