I just aquired a 50 hp johnson engine the model number is J50BELCTA and the serial number is J5811485 any help is greatly apperiated
 
thats a1983 after 1980 all you have to do is spell the word introduce then number the letters the i would be a1 the n is a 2and so on.now on your model number the j50 says its a 50 hp johnson the b made in bel the el is elec start long shaft now the rest of the letters are the year C is #8 T is #3 i dont know what the a is for
 
This helps me to know what parts to buy I guess now I get the wonderful duty of correcting the title on the J60TLCD I just bought that is titled as an 89 model motor!
