Identifying Mariner 40HP 6E9

Hi Guys,

I've been searching the web for info on my inherited 40HP Mariner and most responses close to what I'm looking for have come from this forum so I joined up to hopefully get some help with restoring my RIB.

I'm hoping someone can help me identify the year of my engine and point me in the right direction with regard to servicing, manuals and any experienced info on what/what not to do and keep an eye on.

What I can read from the manufacturers plate is: 40ML 6E9 308459 (there is also a 'J' in the bottom right corner).

Your motor is a Jap 2 cylinder 40 hp. Looks Like an 1988 1989 model. Both years use same parts book so no problem there.You have a Yamaha made Mariner.

Which servicing manual would you guys recommend for this model?

I'm going to guess and say you have put an extra digit in there, if it is the 1, then that's an '82. It's a Yamaha built mariner.
