OMC Info needed

OH OH...... you're making your first repairs?????

Look up Stuart Hasting's web site. I don't know if Stuart goes into the Stringer drives or not, but Stuart is an authority on OMC drives.

Or..... give Brad a call at Fairview Marine in Fairview Oregon. OMC is Brad's bread-n-butter.

.

800 series stringer mount drives of the same generation (hydromech or full mechanical shift) will bolt on and replace a 400 series stringer mount drive physically.

However, there are two different overall gear ratios of 400 series for any generation, and about 5 different overall gear ratios of 800 series for any generation. When you start mixing and matching uppers and lowers, there are more than a dozen different overall gear ratios you can create.

The next (albeit small) hurdle is steering worm gears. Some are RH, some are LH and the wrong one makes your steering work backwards.

You can also replace a 400 OR 800 with a low profile electric shift drive as long as it is 1973 or newer, has tru-course steering in it and you install an electric shifter and associated wiring.
