KM-2A Transmission Slip, SAE 10 Oil

The KM-2A transmission on my 2GM slips when first engaged (forward), then comes in with a clunk. I know this probably means glazing on the cone, but have heard of of someone fixing the problem in the short term by using a low-viscosity oil (SAE 10 I think). Anyone else done this?
ps: I know I'll have to remove and unglaze it eventually
