Honda Outboard runs fine with key in start position, when you turn to on position it shuts off. Any help on how to fix this issue!!??? Thanks!

Check all your fuses.

Check to be sure that when you turn the key switch to on, you get two beeps and all your warning lights come on for two seconds.

Check to be sure, when you turn your key switch to on, the gauges come on.

If all that checks out, then the most likely location of the problem is your main relay assembly or one of its connections. Check to be sure there are no broken wires for corroded contacts going to it. See #18 http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/2005/BF135A5 LA /STARTER CABLE/parts.html

Just replied to a thread on a 130 that had the same kind of problem. He went through all kinds of checks before finding the solution. http://www.marineengine.com/boat-forum/showthread.php?403871-Honda-BF130-dying-before-running

Could be the key switch if the gauges are not working.

I suggested the possiblity of the main relay, since the fuel pump relay gets voltage to operate during starting from the same voltage activating the starter. Once started the voltage to the fuel pump relay is provided through a resistor/diode combination from the power relay. That is the circuit that could be defective.

Thus..if the fuel pumps runs only when starting, the motor will stop when the key switch goes back to the run position.
