I remember seeing an ex Ontario Provincial Police boat for sale a few years ago..it was a 1965 Sheppard, 35 or 36 feet I think, with a pair of those monsters in it, still kicking myself for not going to at least take a look at it

Tahoerover: Here's the photo's. The vin deck on front of block is stamped with only an
"M", the brass plate on right side of block stamped M426SYLX Type 636. The dual fours are gone replaced with Hilborn injection. Fuel is 100/110 blue from airport has long shelf life doesn't smell like paint thinner after couple of weeks, oil is 20/50 Castrol Racing.DIM 024.jpgDIM 017.jpg

Jeff: I looking at buying a 1966 32ft boat that has Chrysler 426 engines. I'm not sure if the engine are 1966 or 1965. HOW can I tell if the engines are HEMI'S?

Thanks

DWW: Eight inch wide valve covers with plug wires in center, brass plate right side block stamped M426. If you wouldn't mind where is the boat?

The 426 Hemi was a 500hp race engine. A 32' boat will have 426 Wedge engines.

Back in the early 60s, we had a 21 foot Chris Craft boat with a 6 cyl KBL engine, it would push the boat to 36mph, not bad for a 6 banger, Around 64 or 65 my dad decided to put in a 426 marine hemi. we got all the info from the factory, and they even sent out a rep to check out to see if our engine bed would hold that big a motor. The rep said it would and that the v8 should push us between the high 60s and maybe even into the low 70s. This engine was rated at 415 hp. our old 6 was 170 hp.

A good answer for DWW, on how to tell its an old Hemi? Gaze at that monster, run your eyes around the massive valve covers with plug wires coming out the middle. Next look down at your pants. If there is a huge bulge there, then you know its a REAL HEMI.

Holy crap! That is sweet ! I can't look down. I gotta get my 66 Charger going this year. Factory.....original 426. Been stored for 38 years. That machine on the water must be breathtaking! I know what dual quads can do on land.

That is easy, just look at the valve covers, if the spark plug wires run to the middle of the valve covers, it is a Hemi. see picture, the holes are where the spark plugs go in.
