1990 set timing,how?

Timing on an outboard generally does not go out of adjustment.------------Will spark jump a gap of 1/4" or better and have you tested compression ?---------Is motor left sitting with fuel in the carburetor ?
 
i soaked carb overnite, haven't checked compression,i will,spark is a little weak it sometimes stong,since i've cleaned carb when i pump gas line gas squirts out vent on top of carb,wasn't getting any gas before,when its starts motor runs for about 30 seconds and quits ,rb,thanks
 
Have a manual?
Check fuel pump diaphram?
Sounds like the floats stuck.
The hoses/connections can be bad.It can suck air and run itself out of fuel.
 
got it,the float bowl has to be aligned with the top of carb,and it can't go but maybe an 1/8 inch down ,mine was hitting the main jet ,i adjusted the float and it's working now ,thanks for your help!,rb
