How do you clean old outboard motors?

Most of the motors I tinker with have been sitting for many years and are very dirty. Is there a product that works well for cleaning the exterior of these motors and the lower units? Is there a spray to get in those tight spots?
 
On engines that I am getting ready to rebuild, I just use automotive engine degreaser in a spray can, and then use a power washer for the final cleaning.
