1958 35 hp Drive Shaft Interchangeable with 1965 Evinrude 40 hp?

Does anyone know if you can swap out a drive shaft from a 1958 35 hp Evinrude to a 1965 40 hp Evinrude? Also, would any of these drive shafts come in a 23" length? I thought they only came in a 32.5" and a 27.5" length.

I was trying to figure out any difference in the drive shafts. Only have the one for the 1965 so I can't do a physical comparison. The parts manual here on Marine Engine is no longer available, so I can't match part numbers either. Didn't the drive shafts for these engines come in only two lengths, 27.5 and 32.5?
