1986 Mariner 9.9 one cylinder

Hi, my 1986 Mariner 9.9 wont fire on both cylinders, at first it was an intermittent problem, but now I get no spark on the bottom cylinder at all. I checked the coils by switching the lead wires from the main electrical connection, I didn’t want to switch cylinders, so I just moved the spark plug wire to the top cylinder and both coils will fire but not when I reconnect them, so I'm not getting spark before the coils, any idea what I should check next?
 
I did some more reasearch, and to clarify, I switched the leads from the switch box to determine if the coils were working, they both fire, what else would cause the bottom cylinder not to fire, I see three parts, the switch box, the stator and the trigger assembly as potential problem areas.
