Source or substitute for Threebond 1107, exhaust gasket

I pulled the powerhead off my friends M70A and the gasket to the engine base was trashed and blown through in a section.

Based on the manual, I should apply Threebond 1107 to both sides of the replacement gasket. I could find very little on this other than that it's a non-hardening high temp paste. Given that I could find almost NO information on this on the whole 'net, what is an appropriate substitute?

I also need to cut a new gasket and the Tohatsu OEM part is obsolete. I'm thinking of 1/32" material from an automotive store, like a sheet of Fel-Pro or Mr. Gasket's premium high temp gasket material. Not sure what I'll find locally just yet, but if anyone has a specific recommendation I'm all ears.

Thanks,

David

We usually install the [current] base gaskets dry, since they are coated with a material that helps them bond to the faces of the seal. Any decent exhaust-rated material should work. Permatex has a gasket compound that works well in applications such as that. YMMV.

Paul, thanks for the response.

In my case, the OEM gasket is obsolete so I have purchased Fel-Pro "Fel-Ramic" exhaust gasket material from Autozone. It's beige ceramic felt on both sides of a stainless steel mesh. It is a bear to cut - you'll need an arch punch or two (expect to dull them too) for the bolt holes and a dremel with small cutting disc wheels. Wear a breather mask and glasses; the dust is nasty. I sure hope it works well. Being uncoated, I expect that if I install this dry I'll end up with water leakage, so a gasket sealer is probably necessary.

The local Tohatsu dealer dresses these gaskets with Loc-Tite 518. http://tds.loctite.com/tds5/docs/518-EN.pdf

I was able to find Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Sealant instead: http://www.permatex.com/products/Au...High_Temperature_Anaerobic_Flange_Sealant.htm
