i just bought a new 2012 15h 4s and i can' t shift in to a forward or reverse gear i can only idle on neautral

Always shift w/a quick jerk motion while the engine is running. If it won't shift take it back to the dealer you bought it from.

got it... the shaft must be totaly submerged in water for the gear to engage
i used muffs to run the water to the motor..dooo

No --------The gear shift should work even if motor is out of the water and running on the garden hose..
