Can anyone help. We have an evinrude 60hp ?1997 VRO outboard. The engine starts no problems. After running for a few minutes the 'Engine Check' light and continuous buzzer sounds. Adviced following a service that the tacho and systems check gauge was faulty so bought a new one but same thing is happening. Any ideas or suggestions ???

"Check engine usually means a fuel flow restriction. If you have a antisiphon, try that or anything else in the line up to the motor. Failure to fix this can cause insufficient lubrication."

"Anne,

I should have mentioned..an easy test for this is to hook up a remote tank (if you are not already working with a remote tank). If it's a restriction in the line, likely using a remote tank will prove this as the alarm will stop.

"Sounds strange as the 60 does not have a vacum switch in the fuel system unless someone has installed it as 'extra'. Do an alarmtest of temp, low oil and VRO (no oil) to check if there is a cross wire in the harness plugs. (Ground the temp alarm wire, run the engine on 2% premix and disconnect the oil hoose, reduce level in oil tank)."
