Hi all, my first post here. I have a 1987 3.0l mercruiser powered 17' Thundercraft. Went to go for a fun day with the family yesterday. I had started it up in the yard with the muffs on and everything seemed fine so we put it in the water and headed out..... The motor revved nicely for about 10 seconds and then bogged. It would not go past 2500 rpm. I went back to shore and the only thing I could get my hands on was gas line anti freeze. I headed back out but same thing.
I pulled the boat back out of the water and headed home.:-( I drained the tank and added a small amount of methyl hydrate and put fresh gas in. I put the boat in early this morning and it work slightly better but would still not go past 3000 rom. I brought some tools with me so I decided to look at the Fuel inlet filter - could hardly blow through it. I took it out and hooked the fuel line back up and.... JOY. I will go by my local shop Tues and get a new filter. Thought I would share this in case it helps others.
