prop question: please help

Depending on rpm if you are exceeding your max rpm by 400 rpm then yes if engine is already in low side of max rpm then definitely not
Pitch up will give higher top speed lower rpm
Pitch down higher rpm lower top speed
All has to be done with in manufacturer recommended rpm
200 rpm per pitch change

Sometimes if your engine is running 100% or close but the rpm is low putting a smaller pitch will do all three, faster out the hole engine rpm and top speed. What is the reason for changing the prop there may be other issues you need to address first before spending the money, is the hull clean and the trim correct. Do a thorough diag of the engine compression, spark, sync, new fuel lines filter and carb rebuild. water pump and thermostat the prop is the last thing not the first!

Oh,,haha sorry about not including the reason: I was in shallow water and bent up my prop. Never been to that crappy lake..filled with murky water and in was 1-2 fow. A guys was selling a laser 2 stainless for 250..in excellent condition so I thought why not replace it, but his is 13 1/2 by 22. thats why I had to ask. Thanks.
