Paragon trans reverse quit

Hey anyone got any ideas? I bought a 76 houseboat with 440 engines an paragon V drives. It had sat 4 years without being run. On the maiden voyage the starboard trans after reversing a couple of times quit. It will still engage forward. Nothing sounds broke, the cable is working correctly. I pulled the reverse cover off the top, the O ring looks new and it's got plenty of fluid in it? Any ideas?

Could be a stuck vlave. Change the fluid, add some trans snake oil, and run it a while. You might get lucky.

You still have neutral, right? If no neutral too, all bets are off.

I haven't owned a Paragon in a long while but I seem to remember that there's an adjustment on the case that can be used to set the takeup for reverse clutches only.

Someone one on here can probably confirm if I'm right. If not, you can probably download a manual. There are a lot of those transmissions still in use.

Reverse is a band not a clutch on a Paragon.

There is a piston that activates the band against the clutch drum. It has a simple O-ring seal and a simple cheap part to replace. The piston is under the top cover.
