I am troubleshooting (Serial # 0G125061) ignition failure.
This is a short shaft, electric start ,tiller model Mercury.
It's stator numbered = 398-9873-A15 , black ,rubber insulated.
It's book (90-86148R2) states 'black stator' resistance = 525-625 ohms . tests 468.7 ohms. low
it's DVA =g/w to GND = 190-320. tests 65. LOW
g to GND = 20-40. tests 29.8 ok
The tested values obtained with stator unplugged from harness.
Does my testing procedure and findings seem valid?
Yes/ No
Yes =Ok replace stator.
when searching my existing stators number they all show an uninsulated stator.
When checking Parts sites I find several other different stator numbers used.
What is the 'right' replacement?
I would like to replace it with the proper one and has (very) good battery charging coils.
Will my voltage regulator / TPM deal properly with this replacement?
