Steering console re pair?

I have a 89' 18 foot Wellcraft Fisherman and my steering console is broken at one part. I am not sure if anyone is familiar with these boats but the part that is broken is under the wheel and throttle where your feet is against while sitting or standing. It's cracked on the bottom and with this console design it actually has screws all around it to hold it to the actually console piece. My question is can I rebuild that part myself and put it back on there where its stronger and looks a lot better. I was thinking of using wood and putting a resin of some sort to waterproof it and then fiberglass and than paint it white.

Any ideas?

Your boat isn't the only one that has seen a soft console section.

I can't give you any details without a good inspection. I'd use marine wood if you need it and want the repair to last. Good prep and cleaniness will help your repair 'work right' the first time.

Paint - Awlgrip works well for me...ask 10 people and you are likely to get at least 7-8 different answers. Just pick a brand name - the are worth the premium.
