1992 Magnum III Block compared to 2001 Mercury XR6

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I would be able to swap a block out of my 1992 magnum III with a block out of a 2001 mercury xr6. Everything looks the same, but I can't find any information.
 
Yes, both are 150, 2.5 block. The serial numbers are different, but as far as I can tell everthing looks the same with the exception of few small mounting brackets on the outside. I am mainly concerned about whether the crank case and crank from the magnum III will fit on the block from the xr6. The pistons are the same but I thought I would see if anyone knew of anything I couldn't see before I tackle the project. Thanks for the help, anything is appreciated.
 
The serial number for the 1992 Mercury Mariner Magnum III is 884-9763-C, and the 2001 Mercury XR6 is 884-858257-C1. I don't know how to read serial numbers so any help is appreciated.
