My brother has a 1998 Nissan 5 hp, he needs to change from a short shaft to a long shaft.
Can anyone advise me on parts, and where to buy them.
He is currently in Florida, i am going down to Florida on the 17th so please i need some info asap.
Thank you in advance for any help given.

Year is irrelevant for servicing Tohatsu/Nissan outboards. Model/serial is what counts. I'm assuming he has an NS5B 2-stroke. He would need a different driveshaft housing (369S610302 DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING L $271.06), driveshaft (369643020M DRIVE SHAFT L $127.10), water tube (369651100M WATER PIPE L $17.57), and shift rod (369662150M SHIFT ROD L $16.10). Probably not cost effective to go with all new parts (over $400). Best bet would be to trade for a long model. Might get something newer that 15 years old at the same time.

It will be a similar story if the motor in question is an NSF5A2 (4-stroke), but you will be working with newer, EPA-rated technology. Still better to sell/trade the short motor and get a long model. The conversion (unless you have a blown-up "donor motor", is way too expensive.
