Jack, the Hot Spark or Pertronix conversion kits take care of contact point issues.
It will usually give you better starts and better low speed operation.

However, this conversion does zero for any worn distributor shaft bushings (that may affect dwell) and/or any discrpancies in the Mechanical Advancing system (due to worn, rusty, corroded, restricted flyweights or weak flyweight return springs).

If you do the Hot Spark or Pertronix conversion, you'll want to have a shop test your distributor on a Distributor Machine.
A good shop that is equipped to do this work can re-bush if need be and re-set the curve/limit if need be.

Or.... save yourself the hassle and replace the Ignition Distributor with something other than one using these Hall Effect units.
