Tohatsu 20 HP till to remote control coversion

I currently have a 20HP mercury outboard on my boat with the remote sidemount control box. I have an opportunity to purchase a practically new 20HP Tohatsu with tiller control. I was wondering if I could use my mercury control box with the Tohatsu? I know I will need the Tohatsu SRC kit. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.
 
Assuming they are both Tohatsu-built 4-strokes... the Morse cables will be fine. But depending on the wiring harness for the specific models, you may be doing some splicing to get the right wires going to the right places.
 
I'm not sure how long Tohatsu has been making the smaller Mercury outboards, but my 20HP is a Merc 200 and was made in 1976. Yes, I assumed that I would most likely need to do some splicing, but I can't think of any reason that it could not be made to work and save the expense of new sidebox control.
