hi, my motor has the gears on the tiller twistgrip set-up. I need to drop the lower unit to fix the water pump.
I have undone the three 13mm bolts that hold the lower unit on but cannot see how to disconnect the long gear shift rod to allow the unit to come away. how do I go about it ?. thanks. j

Look near the bottom of the carburetor ( port side )----If it is electric start it helps to remove starter.--------You will see a simple linkage hook-up , hardly any tools required to to disconnect it.

thanks for the reply all has become clear now.:)

the shift rod is connected to a cam at the top of the rod under the hood, the outside portion of this cam lifts up 1/2" to allow the whole plate/pin to be pulled out and free the shift rod. an 8mm bolt is undone on the clamp halfway down the shift rod , the three 13mm bolts that hold the lower unit on and off it comes. remove four 10mm bolts in the waterpump housing and lift up and you have the impellor.

google is a usefull tool, so I hope this explanation helps someone out in the future.
