i have a faria tach on my pontoon boat which has a 1998 50 hp johnson out board motor on it. my problem is the tach is stuck on 2100 rpms. i ckecked the back of the tach and found a dirt dobber clod on the terminals and wiring. so i removed the tach and wiring to clean it up but the tach with it disconnected and removed is still stuck on 1200 rpms. whats going on, and is it spose to be like that?

Ayuh,... Hard to say, some tachs don't go to zero, when turned off....

Try it, if it don't read right,... Replace it...

You should have three wires coming off the instrument, if it is the standard type. If you connect the ground to battery negative and the I (Ignition) terminal to battery positive, then tach should go to zero. If your set up has a customized plug that goes into a harness, you are going to need to figure out the ground and Ignition connectors to test it. Try the Faria website.
