Trim gauge 70A2

I have a trim gauge that I havn't been able to get working.
I know the gauge works, I think its the sensor / sending unit connected to the midsection of the engine. Does anyone know much about these? wire diagrams maybe? I have a 70A2 manual but havn't been able to find wiring info on it.
 
I have the Nissan service manual which covers the NS50C, NS60A, NS70A2. I just went thru it again and found a decent wiring schematic on the back 2 pages.
I just finished putting my boat in storage so I won't be able to test the sending unit till spring. I'm starting to think now that I might not have had a proper ground to the gauge itself.
