Odor of Gasoline..Is This "Normal?"

Every time I put my boat back into my garage after running it, I smell gas for a few days around the engine. A couple of buddies told me this is to be expected with a carburetor outboard. However over the years I have had three other carburetor outboards that did not do this.

FYI, I use a transom savor so the engine is always tilted up some.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Carburetors are just controlled fuel leaks. They are containers that hold gasoline and are open to the air. So if you are parked in a garage and there is no air movement you will smell gasoline until it all evaporates away.

to me it sound like the floats are sticking from varnish in the carb from old gas

stabilizer can prevent this from happening
