1988 Nissan 55

I just purchased a 1988 Nissan 55 and am trying to take the shift link loose so I can drop the lower unit to inspect the water pump. I can't see how to disconect it.

Thanks for any help.

Brass rod coupler with stainless roll pins. Push out the lower pin with a sharp punch of the correct size and a good couple of raps from a small hammer.
