Ignition relay

I have a 57 Chris craft that is powered by a 1992 marine power 4 cyl. From the ignition/key there is a relay that splits and one leg goes to the fuel pump, one leg to the alternator, and one leg to the ignition coil. I have deciphered that either the relay was bad or something is causing the relay to burn out. So I can bypass this relay to each component individually and it fires up. Then i bought new relays which I can replace the 12$ relay and it fires up but immediately burns out the relay. What could cause the relay to burn out like this. It has been working wonderfully up to this point.

Thanks adam

Can you elaborate on relay burning out? Does engine quit when that happens? How many batteries do you have? Have you unhooked and rehooked any wires? If you haven't changed any wires, I'd guess a faulty coil. Purple wire to alternator and wire to fuel pump shouldn't cause that.
