I recently puchased a boat that is equipped with a 3 cylinder 18 HP Perkins Diesel motor in it. The engine itself sounds and performs great. However, I had a oil lek which I found between the pan and the block. I dropped the pan and in doing so 10 of the 20 screws broke off inside. I pulled the motor from the engine compartment and drilled and pulled the old pieces of the broken screws out. I was able to get 18 out of 20 good screws. There was no gasket between the pan and the block to create a proper seal and with the information that I have on the engine I am being told that it is not a good number to get a match. I used a piece of sheet rubber to attempt a gasket. The leak has slowed but there still is a sign of a minor leak. Also, my oil light comes on even when oil registers on the stick. I'm thinking my sending unit is not picking up. Am I correct?
