Nissan 2-stroke 5hp stalls under load

I have a 199? 2-stroke 5hp Nissan O/B. It idles fine and revs up and down flawlessly. But as soon as I shift into gear and accelerate, it stalls. Recently had a sticking valve/float and treated it with a generous application of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner through the gas. Also added a regular portion of water treatment as I've had problem with water in the fuel earlier this year. That problem (water in fuel) was resolved by the local Nissan mechanic.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds like you are still running lean. Forget the "mechanic in a bottle" stuff, scrap the water-treatment "snake oil" (as it's typically only alcohol anyway), and clean the carb thoroughly. That means carb removal, complete disassembly, a 4-hour bath in real carb dip, followed by a flush out with generic carb spray, and careful reassembly, noting/setting float height. Also dump any fuel more than 30 days old, and run only fresh.
