My t & t seal went out where the actuating shaft comes out of the cylinder. There appears to be no way to access the seal to replace it. My local dealer says that the entire t&t unit must be replaced at a cost of $1800.00. Are they insane or what? He showed me on microfiche how on all other t&t units either the barrel unscrews from the base or the cap at the top of the barrel unscrews to allow access to replace it. Nissan ended up changing it later on so that it is easily serviceable. Does anyone out there know of a way to replace this seal? It seems insane to have to replace an entire t&t unit because of one seal going bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I took it to one other Nissan authorized repair center and also a Mercury repair facility where I am friends with the owners and no one could offer me a remedy.
