Question about Evinrude '88 30HP

Hello. I have a question for all of you. I just bought a beautiful used Evinrude engine today. It is '88 tiller, 30 HP. The question is: How do I keep the engine in one direction if my hand isn't on the speed control? When I let go for a second, it should continue on its own in one direction. Instead, it abruptly shifts to the right. Not safe. It happens VERY FAST. But the skeg looks great--very straight. It has been greased. The engine itself is very smooth. Just abrupt turn to the right if I'm not holding it. It exhausts my arm and I need to be able to do other duties such as fetching rope etc. Thank you very much.

You need to find the adjusting screw for steering friction -------------------Just take the motor off the boat ----------lay it down and look for that screw !!!!!
