Dropped starter shim....

I was trying to shim my starter today, when I had an unfortunate fumble. I dropped the shim, and it ended up falling down into my flywheel housing. I'm wondering if anyone knows how much room there is at the bottom of that housing? Can that shim cause big damage being down there? If it can't stay there, I'm guessing the only way to get it out is to pull my engine. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I am not totally sure about this but I think the lower front of the bellhousing is open behind the oilpan.
If so perhaps you could get your hand up in there and see if you can locate the shim?
It will be one of those real awkward boat repair positions that we all love so much!

I managed to get a magnet in there and pull the shim out. I must have been livin' right lately. Thanks for the help everyone......Dan
