Installing rebuilt Power Head, which base Gasket to use?

When replacing the power head, installing back on the midsection, the book said to install a new gasket on the exhaust housing adapter. In the parts page one gasket is called (adapter to housing) item 63, the other item 38 is (adapter to power head gasket). Which gasket? Johnson 1988 40 HP Model J40ELCCS - PARTS Midsection Item 38 or 63.
 
Use gasket ref number 38. And take my advice, use an original OMC part. Do not use a Sierra gasket. They are about .015 thick, where the OMC is .045 thick. Much better quality in the OMC. No sealer is required.
