M40C dies during idle

I have a Tohatsu M40C from 2004. It starts first time but when I take the engine out off gear (idle) after running at half to full speed for a period it sometimes runs very irregularly at idle speed and after app. ½ - 1 min it will die. When this happens it will not start again for the following 5-15 min. Once it starts it runs fine again.
Any idea what can cause this?
 
Could be a lot of things, likely fuel delivery. Check float height and the whole fuel system. Might have a worn/sticky float needle.
 
Thank you! The engine has been standing still for a few years. When I first started it, it kept drowning as the float were stuck. After cleaning the carbonator it worked much better, however it still dies as described above. I will try to check the float height and fuel delivery.
