electric choke very hot on holley 600

Holley 600 single line, elec choke, and vac secondaries. With the ign switch on but the motor isnt running, the choke began to smoke. After turning off the ign. switch and batt. switch and allowing it to cool down, the motor wouldn't start. What would cause this and can I buy just a choke to replace it?
 
sounds like the choke coil is ready for replacement. If the coil is shorted, it is likely to be the cause of the no-start (won't let enough electrons flow thru the coil to make spark).
