Are '98 Evinrudes interchangable with 50 hp and 48 hp. Looking to swap lower ends.

I have my 50 hp and lower gears are shot. My buddy has the same year but a 48 hp thats supposed to work. Been sitting for years though so i trust my motor. I want to just swap lower ends and save the motor for later parts. Is this ok to do. They are both long shafts as well and both are 1998 two strokes. Thanks for any help.
