I have a Mariner 4M Made in Japan in my garage that I would like to sell. It has serial number 6E0L 313875.
What year and what is its spec?

4M = 4HP/Manual start. 6E0 indicates Yamaha Mariner,S = Short shaft,083741 puts it in the '86 number range.
4A M6E0-076815 - 6E0-0888141986

1986! Thank you!

i have my 4hp on a little 12' Jon boat
i have to sit way up in the middle seat to get it on a plane with a long tiller handle extension.

i would love to convert it to a 6 hp if it is just a carb? Do you know the difference? Carb part number?
thanks for your reply!

The gain would be minimal to the point of unnoticeable.I'll be honest,I would not know the difference,other than the pump appears to be on the opposite side ,and the jet size.There are more knowledgeable people on here that know about these Yamahas' for that's what it is,dressed up in Mariner colours. Bail me out Graham:D
The carb number for the 6HP is in this link http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mariner-outboard-parts/6c/6h8010382-and-up-m/carburetor .
How is your gear distributed? Adjust the trim on the motor,in if the bow comes up too high,more of the gear to the bow,will help.I'm guessing this because you say you have to sit in the middle.
