Engine died - Will not restart

Looking for some opinions/suggestions on what to check - Was running back in from fishing at about 3/4 throttle and the engine just stopped - Nothing. Sat for a minute or two it restarted but only went for about another 3-4 minutes. Thought it might be no gas or clogged fuel but added gas - nothing - changed/inspected filter - nothing. Trys to start turning over but just doesn't fire.............Help!!!
 
Do a compression and then a spark test.Good comp and good spark?Flywheel key sheared.No spark.
outboardignition.com has test procedures for outboard ignitions.
You have a kill switch?Test that.
Look under the flywheel and see if the magnet has come loose.
Check these and get back with results.
Check the fuel pumps.
Any water in the gas??
 
So went down to the boat yard this morning to start tyring the above - Specifically the spark test. Turned the key and bam it starts right up 1st turn???
Nervous now about going out again without understanding what went wrong........

Am in line to have it looked at by the boatyard but he is not a certified mechanic for Force/Mercury outboards - Oh boy
