New to this forum. Hoping someone can get me on the right track. I have a 2003 Mercury 115 EFI 4 Stroke. It recently started making a whining noise that I do not recall hearing before. It only does it when you first start the engine. The odd part is if you engage the gear selector it stops and when you pull it back to neutral, it's gone. It will make the noise again when you shut it off and restart it. Is it possible that the gear selector is out of adjustment? I don't have any issues with shifting from F to R but I can't think of what else it might be. Engine runs great otherwise. Good power, no hesitation, good water pressure and it doesn't have any unusual noises at high rpms. Any thoughts are appreciated.
