coupler is aluminum, driveshaft is steel, so I don't think rust at the coupler end is the issue.

Sometimes failed gimbal bearings, will lock onto the driveshaft. Usually, people pull the engine out of the boat and then push/drive the gimbal bearing and shaft out together. But I have heard of people using a series of wedges and a lot of finesse and patience to pull the bearing and drive off without destroying the helmet part.
 
hook back up the rams and push it off bye hitting the trim button. It might come off a little then place a piece of flat wood between the transom and the drive. and hit the button again

You sure all the bolts are out ?

What you had doubts ?

I have all kinds of stuff like a almost new alt. a fuel pump and a bunch of stringer stuff from a 2.5 / 3.0 motor alt brackets, yep like 3-4 of them a flywheel. Timing cover, valves cover, pushrod cover.

Got a coupler for a alpha 1 looks new.

And a bunch of props 13 spline fits outboards also.
