Question DV10 thermostat - do we need it ?

hi there - I run an old but reliable DV10 -however, the bellows type thermostat fell to bits when I removed it - so reassembled without it. As the motor operates in sub tropical conditions most of the time, I assume lack of thermostat will simply assure a full water flow.
Is this assumption correct for the Buhk ? or, am I best advised to simply install a replacement.
    thanks

Thermostats were installed to keep a motor running at the optimum temp.Running cooler's not good.
It also might make the exhaust overheat or have hot spots. As the water just goes to the easiest place and then out.
    Replace it.
