loud thunk when running wide open

I have a 1989 Force 150 hp When running wide open I am hearing an occasional clunking noise. It almost sounds like you hit something in the water. It happens about every 10 to 15 seconds and also sounds like the prop may be slipping . I have checked the prop to be sure it is not slipping on the rubber but looks ok. Any help would be great.
 
Sounds like the clutch dog is bad.Check the linkage,making sure it's in gear.While you run.
The prop could be slipping.Take it off and mark the rubber and re install and go for a ride.After it clunks again.Check the rubber see if it's moved.No move is the dog.J
 
Can the same thing happen to a '93 40 hp? I recently had the water pump replaced and now have the same problem. Like it slips out of gear. Shifting to reverse then back to forward seemed to fix it.
