I have a 40 hp Evinrude outboard motor with power tilt. Recently the hydraulic lift has been leaking oil thru the seal at the top. I took it to a mechanic and he said it would be expensive to fix and if it were him he would just add oil before each time I used it. That has been working fine until yesterday.
Now. Once I trailered the boat the trim would not work and I could not get the motor to disengage to manually lift. Am I missing something? There was nothing in the manual other that to flip the lever to disengage. I could not get the lever to move. It is bound in the down position. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to get it up before hauling it to the shop.
