1995 GT 40 trips 60A breaker

I have a 1995 Hydrodyne gran sport with the GT 40 in it and the other day i was on the lake and the audible warning alarm came on and the ignition light came on. after shutting it off i lost power to everything due to the 60 amp breaker being tripped. after reseting it i was able to start it up again but the alarm continued and i realized that the breaker was triped again and the only reason i had power was because the alternator, although it does not charge the batery. the breaker will trip in less than a min after starting but does not trip if the alternator is not hooked up. i am new to this but any help will be greatly appreciated! thanks!
