Yamaha 5hp 2-stroke water cooling problem

Help! I suspect my impeller has gone but cannot get the lower housing off. Do I need to remove whole prop shaft housing at gear lever end?

from gear housing up about half way you should see the bolts where it comes apart.Buy a manual for that engine is the best thing to do.

Dont pull out that propshaft housing just to do a water pump.
Remove the screws holding the lower unit, and you should also see a round rubber cap on the exhaust housing above the lower unit.
Remove the cap and disconnect the shift shaft from there... The lower unit should then come off...

Thanks Ciscokid and Tonyaus, took it to local marine expert as no immediate replies to my enquiry here.
Impeller is ok, but water cooling channels in head were clogged with salt, etc. Found pinch bolt as you said - under round rubber plug halfway up casing.

Thanks again both.

CornwallKen
