Transom Shield Gasket : Is sealer needed ?

Hi Guys,
I'm replacing my DP-C transom shield and I'm wondering if sealer needs to be applied to the new shield to transom gasket. There were no traces of sealer on the old gasket when I removed the shield, but I just want to be safe and I can find no info on this.

Ditto Rick. Instructions don't mention sealant. Having said that, I would inspect the seal mating surface on the transom. If there are scrapes or gouges, use sealant. A small bead is all you need.
